From pedicures to time alone, self-care is vital.
La Trease Schmidt spent 33 years in the air force reserves. That training helped to fortify her self worth, but she only joined because of an off-handed comment from her cousin and laughter from her dad saying she couldn't make it in the military. Recently retired, she looks back on learning to love herself in her 20's, earlier than most of us, and taking time to care for herself.

Don’t rush
Have you ever wished the day away only to look back and realize you missed some pretty great stuff?
I have and the realization that I missed out on the precious present really bothered me.
Today, I challenge you to sit back and give time, time.

Worry is a waste of time.
I used to be a worrier.
I had mapped out every possible outcome, conversation and plan.
You know what? I was exhausted, stressed and freaked out.
This was especially true during the beginning of Covid.
Then I got in a bad accident in February 2021.
My life changed.
I had a forced "brain vacation." I had to STOP. A literal full stop.
And over the next year and a half, I rested, I healed and I thought. And, in that time, I realized the value of letting go and not sweating the small stuff. You hear about the importance of doing that, but living it? It was hard before. Now, it's no big deal. I'll deal with what comes when it arrives and until then, I'll live in the moment because I don't know if I will have another moment. None of us do.
Don't rob yourself of joy. Rest in the pause. Know that life has a way of working out and worrying won't make the outcome any different.

Forgive for Yourself
Have you ever forgiven someone who didn't ask for forgiveness?
I have.
At first, it was really hard. REALLY hard. I mean seriously, they were wrong. They hurt me.
But here's the thing. They didn't know I was still angry or hurt (maybe). More importantly, when I stayed mad, I continued to give them power and control. Read that again. When you continue to be mad at someone, you give them power and control!
Yeah, no.
So, I forgave them. I moved on. I let go. I stopped thinking about it.
And you know what? I was happier. I was FREE! When you forgive, you are doing it as much for yourself as the other person and that's a beautiful thing. You control who gets in your head and heart. So choose wisely.
Forgive quickly and totally. It will change your life.

Rest in the Pause.
Do you rush from meeting to meeting, obligation to obligation?
Do you have a hard time turning off your mind at night?
Life has a way of making us think things are crises when in fact, they are stumbling blocks. Stumbling blocks that may actually be stepping stones.
Today, I encourage you to slow down, rest in the pause and find quiet.
Happy Labor Day!
