Take that chance!
More than six years ago, I had an amazing opportunity to go to Italy on short notice.
I went alone.
I didn't speak the language.
I stayed for free in an acquaintance's beautiful home in the Tuscan mountains.
I had one thing planned, a cooking class.
Otherwise, it was a blank slate filled with opportunities.
It was a magical, empowering and beautiful experience.
I have so many fond memories: watching a bike race speed by, sitting in the hot springs of White Whale, a local favorite, sitting by a lake surrounded by wildflowers with the mountains in front of me, amazing food, wine and my favorite, listening to a baroque ensemble in a small countryside cathedral. It was breathtaking. The music literally flowed through and over me.
There are times in life when we have to take a chance and go for something that seems risky or different. There are times when we have to cast off the bowlines and sail out of safe harbors.
I got the chance to do that and I am incredibly grateful.
What have you done that didn't make sense to others but was magical for you?

What do you want for Christmas, Mom
My children ask me each year the same question. After thinking about it, I decided to give them my real answer: What do you want for Christmas? I want you to keep coming around. I want you to ask me questions. Ask my advice. Tell me your problems. Ask for my opinion. Ask for my help. I want you to come over and rant about your problems, rant about life. Whatever, tell me about your job. Your worries. your classes. I want you to continue sharing your life with me. Come over and laugh with me, or laugh at me. I don't care, hearing you laugh is music to me. I want you spend your money making a better life for you. I have the things I need. I want to see you happy and healthy. When you ask me what I want for Christmas I say "Nothing" because you've already been giving me my gift all year. I want you.
