What’s Your Personal Mantra
I thought I had it figured out. I knew my personal mantra.
“I help women in midlife find joy, purpose and community through coaching, workshops, inspirational speaking and retreats.”
It’s my elevator speech. When I explain Queens of Moxie to others, I start there.
But here’s the thing, it is SO much more than that. It’s deeper, richer and more powerful than a simple elevator speech can convey.
I’ve been working with an woman named Carolina Pacheco Punceles. She’s a rock star. She pushes me. She challenges me. She supports me. She helps me see past my blind spots and dig deeper.
She recently asked me to write my life’s mission statement from some work I’d been doing on defining my values, my power and my “I am” statements.
Then, she pushed me more. She asked me to look at my vision board and make sure all of my vision items were included in my mission statement. She asked me to define what it is that I am doing, who I am doing it for, where my energy is going and what I want my legacy to be.
She asked me to not just name things, but to own them. To define them in terms of “My power is…,” “Where my inner peace comes from…,” and “Where my confidence comes from…”
In other words, don’t just gloss over it. Own it. Step into it. Find the power within myself.
WOW!
I have a tendency to avoid things emotionally when it gets hard. One of my learned coping mechanisms from abuse survival is shutting down emotionally when I am threatened.
Now, I am identifying when I do that, naming it, understanding the root cause and parenting my inner child.
I’m learning that my confidence is stepping into my power. My confidence is overcoming fear with my power. My confidence is paying attention to where my attention needs to be in the moment.
And all of that leads me back to my personal mission statement. I am spending time in reflection, making sure that it’s not just lip service, but truly representative of the legacy I want to leave behind. And I know that soon, my personal mantra will be far more than the elevator speech listed above.
