Take that chance.
Years ago, I lost my job in a RIF.
It was the first time I'd lost a job and I was devastated.
My kids were going away with their dad for two weeks and everyone I reached out to was busy.
I mentioned to a friend that I had always wanted to go to Italy and just for fun had looked at airfare. It wasn't horrible.
And then, an amazing thing happened.
She introduced me to someone she had just met and well, it's crazy, but this total stranger told me I should stay in her Tuscan home for free. She wasn't going to be there, but I should go.
And just like that, less than two weeks later, I was in Tuscany.
It was truly amazing. I didn't know a word of Italian. I didn't know a soul. I didn't have any real plans.
My dad had emailed me and expressed all kinds of concerns. "Did you register with the US Embassy?" "Do you have travel insurance?" "Have you looked at the safety ratings for Italy?" Etc.
My poor parents were terrified that their little girl in her mid-40s, who had owned two homes by herself and raised two kids by herself, was going to a foreign country alone. They were certain it was a bad idea. I should stay home and look for a job and figure out my next move.
Nope.
I went. And it was one of the most magical experiences of my life. There were so many things that brought me pleasure, things I still reflect on today.
So, when you have a chance to sail away from safe harbors. When you get a chance to chase a dream, do it. You won't regret it.
