Sex Education

There are a few shows on Netflix that I watch religiously. Sex Education is one of them. It’s a raw, graphic and real representation of what our teenage and young adult children are facing. It’s a reflection of the gender, identity and tough issues our kids grapple with daily. It’s a must-see.

And, I’m sure it’s controversial. It tackles so many important topics and I won’t detail them all. But I’m in the middle of the 8th episode in season 4 and I feel compelled to write about it.

The topic is something I have felt passionate about for more time than I can remember: LGBTQ and the church.

Yep, I am going to offend and tick off some people here. And, I’m OK with that because this is important.

I worked in the entertainment department at Disney in high school. Easily 75% of the men were gay. I became a LBGTQ ally at 16 and I’ve never looked back. I shared my views with others before it was “cool.” I left a church partly because they didn’t want to honor that love is love. I knew God’s love was far bigger than our current world view.

Then, my youngest came out. My youngest prefers they/them pronouns. It became personal. I just joined my new church and I met with the pastor before I would even consider joining because I wanted to make sure my child wouldn’t be judged. Again, God’s love is too big for the constraints we put on things in this flawed earthly world.

Please, watch Sex Education, Season 4, Episode 8, from 24.51-27.54 and 36.56-37.55.

Watch it and understand the pain we are causing individuals and whole communities.

Watch and learn more about God’s love and His desire for His children to shine brightly to help others. It is truly beautiful.

Education and understanding are critical.

God loves all of His children, exactly as they are.

Love is Love.
