Queens of Moxie Podcast: Kim Eley ~ English major, to IT, to published author

Laughing until she snorts, full of energy and always positive, Kim Eley, writer, publisher and writing coach, talks with us about transitioning from a steady job in IT that wasn’t fulfilling, to her dream job that has only grown in joy and success.

In 2014, her entire team was laid off. Her team was the favorite part of her work and she says it rebooted her world. “I realized I was sleepwalking.” She looked around for books on people who loved their work and couldn’t find one. So, she wrote one! That led to her self-publishing and eventually coaching others on the self-publishing business.

She says there were a lot of scary moments along the way, but she said if she didn’t take that leap of faith she would have missed out on so much. She says, “I have a vision. I have a purpose. I have a calling. I have something to share.”

Her tip to others? “Don’t be afraid of failure. Instead, view it as research. Don’t let failure defeat you! Move on and grow from those experiences. They can be some of the most powerful lessons learned. Harness that fear. Have the attitude that, ‘I’m going to fail, but I’m going to fail up!’”
